Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

For whatever reason (personal taste, or just plain normalness) David Lynch just isn’t for some people. I’m quite fond of most of his weird garbage, however, and found this movie quite fun.

If you weren’t a fan of the series, avoid this at all costs. For those of us terribly obsessed with the television series, this is a lot of fun. David Lynch gets to show us all the stuff he couldn’t on TV: Laura snorts coke in the bathroom, there’s some actual gore, and so on. It’s basically a prequel to the series. In the series, Laura was already dead. In the movie, we get to see the last few days of Laura’s life.

It starts off with the FBI investigating the murder of a young girl, and Cooper feels that the killer will strike again. Of course, he’s right. Even though we all know what’s coming at the end (more or less), what holds your attention is the sense of impending doom and the character development. A lot questions that arose in the series are answered as well.

The Little Man from Another Place sort of explains what he is, and mumbles about “garmonbozia” and green formica tables. Donna Hayward, unfortunately, is not played by Lara Flynn Boyle. The actress that plays her comes off as a bit too innocent.

A must-see if you watched the series, but everyone else should steer clear. It won’t make a bit of sense to you.
