Blodarv/Silva Nigra split
Reviewed by Oct 22nd, 2009

What a fucking excellent split! I don’t usually start a review that way, but what the hell, this is good stuff. I’ll start with the Blodarv half beacause I like it slightly better. “A Thousand Wounds on my Body” sets the mood ith some samples, sounds of rain, and spoken lyrics, but things don’t actually get awesome until “Power of a Soul.” The guitars are nice and fuzzy, the vocals are good, songwriting is great. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Blodarv for a while, then I got this split. “Under Satans Vinger” is probably the best song on here. Great, overly-distorted and melodic guitar parts and well-crafted songs. I’ve already discussed “Langt Vaek Fra Livet” in my review of Linaria Amlech, but it’s also grown on me a lot, though I was unsure of the clean singing parts at first. However, these parts are used well and add to the very depressing and emotional nature of the song. Hugin is sounding genuinely tormented here as well. There is also a cover of Slayer’s “Mandatory Suicide.”

I actually had trouble reviewing this half, not because it’s not good, but because I am overly fond of the Blodarv half. I’m sure, with time, I will also listen to this a fair amount also. It also starts out with an intro track with some weird noises before “Symbol Nen√°visti” starts up, which, like the rest of this, is pretty decent raw black metal. There is enough variety in the songs to keep things interesting, and I like the vocals on here a lot, the vocalist reminds me of Hoest a little bit. Some decent songs on here, no idea what they’re about because I don’t understand the language, but listenable and pretty good.
